The advantages of VoIP telephony are well known now. Low cost, high flexibility and ease-of-use are some of the many benefits of VoIP systems. The advantages of VoIP fax, on the other hand, are less well known. Is Internet-based Fax really reliable? Is it even all that useful? The truth of the matter is VoIP faxes offer a host of advantages over traditional faxes. Here are three advantages of VoIP fax
Cheaper, higher quality faxes
Faxes and voice calls are similar in this respect. Like calls, faxes sent through an IP network are far less expensive than calls sent through a traditional network. Faxes therefore end up costing less with a VoIP fax. However, despite the lower price, VoIP faxes can actually be of a higher quality than traditional faxes. This is because faxed documents are originally digital, and they stay so until they are printed. This prevents the degradation of a printed document.
Little to no hardware
Faxes and voice calls are again similar in this respect. IP faxes require hardly any hardware, since the documents are sent as files from your VoIP device, which can be a phone, a computer, a tablet or any other such device. If you are faxing your documents to another VoIP user, fax machines can actually be avoided on both ends. This allows you to send faxes without the need of an expensive fax machine. As a result, you also save money on installation and maintenance fees.
Freedom and flexibility
One of the biggest advantages of IP faxes is freedom and flexibility of your faxing. This advantage is also present in VoIP phones, but it is even more important in IP faxes. This is due to traditional faxes being mostly stationary devices that allow the transfer of documents between a set of pre-determined locations (other faxes). As a result, a fax could only be sent from the location of a fax machine to the location of another fax machine. With VoIP faxes, however, you can send and receive faxes from a phone with a VoIP fax application, which allows you to send any document you may have to any fax machine. These documents can also be sent to other IP fax users.
